Wouter Fourie (CFP®), Director of Ascor® Independent Wealth Managers & the FPI & Financial Planner of the year 2015/16 speaks to Michael Avery on Classic FM
Towards the end of October, financial planners from all over South Africa and the globe met for two important conferences in Cape Town.
The first was the 2017 FPI Professionals Convention in Cape Town, where professionals met to discuss the state of the financial planning industry and take a view on the future of the industry for professionals, clients and the technology that is available.
Soon after this meeting, the FPI joined professionals from the Financial Planning Standards Board – the global industry regulator – for its annual meeting, which was also held in Cape Town this year. This was another golden opportunity to learn more about the trends and future of this industry.
The senior Ascor Independent Wealth Management Team – Wouter Fourie and Martin de Kock, both attended the FPI conference and Wouter, in his capacity as a director of the Financial Planning Institute, also represented South Africa at the FPSB Conference.
Wouter discussed his insights from the two conferences with Michael Avery of Classic FM recently. In this discussion, Wouter touched on the move towards a more transparent industry, where clients pay for advice and clearly understand the financial relationship between the financial advisor and the product that he or she offers.
Wouter and Michael also discuss the growth in financial technology and so-called robo advice, also in South Africa, and the need for transparency also in this sector. Lastly, Wouter and Michael discuss the fact that women are usually under-served by financial planners and how that should not be the case.
